Week 13

Comedy: Uptown Girls (2003)
The story of a wealthy young woman who by a twist of fate is left pennyless and is forced to become a nanny to an uptight little girl, who has no idea how to be a child. The two must learn from each other if both are going to survive. This movie is funny and sweet with a great cast headed by Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning.

Romance: Wimbledon (2004)
A light hearted romantic comedy about one man's quest to finish his tennis career and his chance encounter with the young American hotshot he falls for. I loved this movie, it was a great sports film, it was fun and entertaining and on the lighter side of things.

Kid Appropriate: The Mighty Ducks (1-3)
Three films that follow the adventures of a young rag-tag hockey team who learn about teamwork and friendship as they fight their way to the top. All of these movies are great fun, but my favorite would probably be the second one: D2: the Mighty Ducks. I love sports films and this is a good example of one of those classic kid oriented sports films (similar to The Sandlot).

Guy Appropriate: Resident Evil (2002)
The first film based off of the game series about a woman out to stop a disease that has turned the majority of the human race into the undead. This is an odd choice, and I'm not a big fan of "undead" films, but I was suprised by how much I liked this one. I think that a lot of the reason I liked it was because of the lead actress Mila Jovovich, she's a pretty good action hero and the movie's not bad (not fabulous but okay).
NOTE: I wouldn't recommend this to most women, but guys who like video games or action films (or maybe even horror films) might like this one.

Must See...VAL KILMER FILMS: The Saint (1997)
This film is based off of an old TV show and is about a man with no identity who uses his talents as a theif under the names of different saints. This film was really good, Val Kilmer does a great jobe tranforming from different characters and the love story is a pretty good one, I love to watch this movie again and again.

Coming Soon: Nim's Island
Released: April 4, 2008
This film is about an adventure story writer who's fear of the outside world has turned her into a shut-in, but her biggest fan is a young girl who lives on a deserted tropical island with her dad. When her dad goes missing, the girl writes to her hero for help and the writer comes to the island and both draw strength from the fictional character they admire. At first I was unsure about this movie, but I think it looks funny and after viewing the trailer I think that there is a better plot line than just a kid hero against impossible odds.
NOTE: The good cast is also promising: Abigail Breslin, Jodie Foster, and Gerard Butler.

Don't Bother: I Love You, I Love You Not (1996)
A film based on a play about a young woman and her grandmother sharing stories about their lives; her about her romantic love life and her grandmother about her days in Nazi Germany. Claire Danes stars in this so I thought I'd try it but it is was a very choppy, lackluster plot with an ending that didn't satisfy or make sense; it is definetly something you can pass over.
